May is National Share-a-Story Month

May is here.  The third and last month of Spring, thought to be named after the Greek Goddess Maia, and where the weather (hopefully) starts to take a turn for the better!  It is also National Share-a-story Month, an annual celebration of the power of storytelling and story sharing, providing a fantastic opportunity to bring children and stories together.

The theme for this year is ‘Picture a Story’, celebrating the power of illustrations for all ages and encouraging the sharing of picture books.  At Torfaen Libraries, we have a wide range of picture books for our younger readers containing the inspiring artwork of illustrators such as Axel Scheffler, Emily Gravett and Tony Ross. We also have a growing collection of graphic novels for our teenage and adult members.

If you have a little one at home, why not cuddle up on a chair or rug and share one of these books when you're next in your local library?

The Everywhere Bear by Julia Donaldson and Rebecca Cobb - The Everywhere Bear has a wonderful time with the children in Class One, but one day he gets more than he bargained for when he falls unnoticed from a backpack and embarks on his own big adventure!  If you enjoy this one it's also worth checking out The Paper Dolls too!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury - Follow and join in the family's excitement as they wade through the grass, splash through the river and squelch through the mud in search of a bear. What a surprise awaits them in the cave on the other side of the forest! A classic story that demands to be shared.

There's a Pig up my Nose! By John Dougherty and Laura Hughes - This delightfully silly tale, brought to life by warm, comical artwork from rising star Laura Hughes, will have children giggling and oinking out loud to try to work out how to get a farmyard animal out of someone's nose.

Triangle - Multi-award-winning, bestselling duo Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen conspire again on a slyly funny tale about some very sneaky shapes.

The Pest in the Nest - From novelist and playwright Julian Gough, and the winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, Jim Field, comes a brilliantly funny story of a rabbit and bear who discover that things are always better when they're shared with a friend.

Share a story with someone this May!

Mae’n fis Mai. Trydydd mis y gwanwyn - a’r olaf, wedi ei enwi, mae’n bosibl, ar ôl y dduwies Roegaidd, Maia, a ble mae’r gobaith am dywydd gwell!  Mae e hefyd yn Fis Cenedlaethol Rhannu Stori, dathliad blynyddol o rym adrodd a rhannu straeon, gan roi cyfle gwych i ddod â phlant a straeon at ei gilydd.

Thema eleni yw ‘Llun ar Stori’, yn dathlu grym darluniau i rai o bob oed ac yn annog rhannu llyfrau â lluniau. Yn Llyfrgelloedd Torfaen, mae gyda ni amrywiaeth eang o lyfrau â lluniau i’n darllenwyr iau sy’n cynnwys gwaith celf ysbrydoledig darlunwyr fel Axel Scheffler, Emily Gravett a Tony Ross. Mae gyda ni gasgliad o nofelau graffeg hefyd ar gyfer ein haelodau yn eu harddegau ac oedolion .

Os oes gyda chi un bach yn y tŷ, pam na wnewch chi eistedd yn ôl a rhannu un o’r llyfrau yma y tro nesaf y byddwch chi yn eich llyfrgell leol?

The Everywhere Bear gan Julia Donaldson a Rebecca Cobb – mae’r arth yn cael amser wrth ei fodd gyda’r plant yn Nosbarth Un, ond un diwrnod mae’n profi mwy na’r disgwyl ar ôl iddo gwympo allan o fag heb yn wybod i neb a dechrau ei antur ei hun!  Os ydych chi’n mwynhau hon mae’n werth edrych ar The Paper Dolls hefyd!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt gan Michael Rosen a Helen Oxenbury - Dilynwch ac ymunwch â hwyl y teulu wrth iddyn nhw gerdded trwy’r glaswellt, sblasio trwy’r afon a slwtsian trwy’r mwd wrth chwilio am arth. Dyna syndod sydd yn yr ogof yr ochr draw i’r goedwig dywyll! Clasur o stori y mae angen ei rhannu.

There's a Pig up my Nose! gan John Dougherty a Laura Hughes - Bydd y stori hyfryd o hurt yma sy’n dod yn fyw trwy gelf Laura Hughes, yn siŵr o wneud i blant chwerthin a rhochian yn uchel i geisio gweithio allan sut mae cael anifail allan o drwyn rhywun.

Triangle – Mae’r ddeuawd arobryn Mac Barnett a Jon Klassen yn cydweithio eto ar stori ddoniol a chyfrwys am siapau llechwraidd.

The Pest in the Nest – Gan y nofelydd a’r dramodydd Julian Gough, ac enillydd Gwobr Ddoniol Roald Dahl, Jim Field, daw stori ddoniol am gwningen ac arth sy’n dysgu bod pethau’n well o gael eu rhannu gyda ffrind.

Rhannwch stori gyda rhywun ym mis Mai!
