Reading Groups’ Choice, best and worst of the year

At their final get-togethers of 2017 the Reading Groups that meet at Cwmbran and Pontypool Libraries voted for their best and worst reads of the year.

The Cwmbran groups failed to come up with a worst book as they agreed they’d enjoyed them all. There wasn’t a clear number 1 either, so here’s their list of 4 favourites.

Jane Harper – The Dry
Tasha Kavanagh – Things We Have in Common
Jem Lester - Shtum
Frances Spufford – Golden Hill

The Pontypool Group didn’t have a problem with the worst
book as they agreed that “My Name is Lucy Barton” by Elizabeth Strout was the least enjoyable (personally I liked this book, but that's just my opinion). However they also struggled with their best book and came up with a list of 5 favourites!

Margaret Atwood – The Handmaid’s Tale
Julian Barnes: The Noise of Time
Essie Fox – Last Days of Leda Grey
Jed Lester – Shtum
Francis Spufford – Goldenhill

There was some overlap between the groups with Shtum and Goldenhill featuring on both lists of favourites.

Get the New Year off to a great start, forget about the weather outside and snuggle up in front of the fire with a good book. If you decide to try the Reading Groups’ choices, let us know what you think and post a comment below.

Dewis Grwpiau Darllen, gorau a gwaethaf y flwyddyn.

Yng nghyfarfodydd olaf y flwyddyn yn 2017, pleidleisiodd y Grwpiau Darllen sy’n cyfarfod yn Llyfrgelloedd Cwmbrân a Phont-y-pŵl dros lyfrau gorau a gwaethaf y flwyddyn.

Nid oedd gan Grŵp Cwmbrân lyfr gwaethaf gan eu bod yn cytuno iddynt fwynhau pob un ohonynt. Nid oedd rhif 1 pendant ‘chwaith, felly dyma restr o’r 4 ffefryn.

Jane Harper – The Dry
Tasha Kavanagh – Things We Have in Common
Jem Lester - Shtum
Frances Spufford – Golden Hill

Nid oedd gan Grŵp Pont-y-pŵl broblem gyda’r llyfr gwaethaf,
gan eu bod yn cytuno mai “My Name is Lucy Barton” gan Elizabeth Strout oedd yr un iddynt ei fwynhau leiaf (yn bersonol, mi wnes i fwynhau’r llyfr yma, ond dim ond fy marn i yw hynny). Ond roeddent hwythau yn cael problem gydag enwi’r llyfr gorau, gan lunio rhestr o 5 ffefryn!

Margaret Atwood – The Handmaid’s Tale
Julian Barnes: The Noise of Time
Essie Fox – Last Days of Leda Grey
Jed Lester – Shtum
Francis Spufford – Goldenhill

Roedd peth gorgyffwrdd rhwng y grwpiau gyda Shtum a Goldenhill yn ymddangos ar y ddwy restr o ffefrynnau.

Dechreuwch y Flwyddyn Newydd yn dda, anghofiwch am y tywydd y tu allan ac ymlaciwch o flaen y tân gyda llyfr da. Os ydych yn penderfynu rhoi cynnig ar ddewisiadau’r Grwpiau Darllen, gadewch i ni wybod a nodwch eich sylwadau isod.
