International Games Week 2018

4-10 November saw this year’s International Games Week.  Torfaen Libraries joined in the fun hosting two Lego Clubs and a drop in board game event.

Events such as these are extremely important to us as they allow children and young adults the opportunity to socialise, communicate and problem solve in a safe, encouraging environment as well as having fun!

Our Lego Clubs run fortnightly in Pontypool and Cwmbran (please call the libraries for more information) and we hope to run more gaming events soon.

We’ve picked some titles below that encapsulate the joy of playing games, all available at Torfaen Libraries:

Brick Wheels by Warren Elsmore - Using LEGO® bricks, artist Warren Elsmore and friends create stunning transport scenes across the four categories of road, rail, water and air. From the steam locomotive to the high-speed train, and the penny farthing bicycle to the stylish scooter, these projects will inspire and inform readers of all ages while providing additional trivia about transport.

Project Code – Create your own story by Kevin Wood - Project Code is a great series for young coders already familiar with Scratch, who are ready to take the next step. With a series of fun projects to master, each book allows readers to explore, create and learn coding fundamentals as they go along.

Labyrinth by Theo Guignard - The biggest maze book to hit the shelves! Explore worlds made of plants, giant skyscrapers, wild habitats, and futuristic cities, in this book that asks you to trace your way through 14 magical mazes. With things to spot along the way, each maze grows in complexity with every turn of the page.

LEGO DC Super Heroes Ultimate Quiz Book - Find out how much of a superfan you are with mind-boggling questions, fun picture rounds, and bonus "genius questions". Become a quiz master and test your friends and family with hours of entertaining LEGO DC Super Heroes trivia.

Roedd Wythnos Ryngwladol Gemau eleni o 4-10 Tachwedd. Ymunodd Llyfrgelloedd Torfaen yn yr hwyl gan gynnal dau Glwb Lego a digwyddiad gemau bwrdd.

Mae digwyddiadau fel hyn yn arbennig o bwysig i ni gan eu bod yn rhoi cyfle i blant ac oedolion ifanc gymdeithasu, cyfathrebu a datrys problemau mewn awyrgylch diogel, annogol yn ogystal â chael hwyl!

Mae ein Clybiau Lego yn digwydd bob pythefnos ym Mhont-y-pŵl a Chwmbrân (cysylltwch â’r llyfrgelloedd am fwy o wybodaeth) ac rydym yn gobeithio trefnu mwy o ddigwyddiadau gemau cyn bo hir.

Rydym wedi dewis teitlau isod sy’n crynhoi pleser chwarae gemau, ac mae pob un ar gael yn Llyfrgelloedd Torfaen:

Brick Wheels gan Warren Elsmore – Gan ddefnyddio briciau LEGO®, mae’r artist Warren Elsmore a’i ffrindiau’n creu delweddau hynod o drafnidiaeth yng nghategorïau ffyrdd, rheilffyrdd, dŵr a’r awyr. O’r trên stêm i’r trên cyflymder uchel, ac o’r beic peni-ffardding i’r sgwter crand, bydd y prosiectau yma’n ysbrydoli ac yn addysgu darllenwyr o bob oed ac ar yr un pryd yn rhoi ffeithiau ychwanegol ynglŷn â thrafnidiaeth.

Project Code - Create your own story gan Kevin Wood - Mae Project Code yn gyfres wych i godyddion ifanc sydd eisoes yn gyfarwydd â Scratch, ac sy’n barod i gymryd y cam nesaf. Gyda chyfres o brosiectau llawn hwyl i’w meistroli, mae bob llyfr yn rhoi cyfle i ddarllenwyr chwilota, creu a dysgu hanfodion codio wrth iddyn nhw fynd ymlaen.

Labyrinth gan Theo Guignard  Y llyfr mwyaf am ddrysleoedd i gyrraedd y silffoedd! Dewch i chwilio ymhlith bydoedd o blanhigion, nendyrau anferth, cynefinoedd gwyllt a dinasoedd y dyfodol, yn y llyfr yma sy’n gofyn i chi ddilyn eich ffordd trwy 14 o ddrysleoedd hudol. Gyda phethau i’w gweld ar hyd y ffordd, mae pob drysle’n mynd yn fwy cymhleth gyda phob tudalen.
LEGO DC Super Heroes Ultimate Quiz Book - Dewch i weld faint o edmygwr ydych chi gyda chwestiynau di-ri, rowndiau gyda lluniau a “chwestiynau’r athrylith” bonws. Cewch fod yn gwis feistr a holi’ch ffrindiau a’ch teulu gydag oriau o hwyl cwis LEGO DC Super Heroes.
