Reading
Well Mood-boosting Books is a national promotion of uplifting titles, including
novels, poetry and non-fiction. The books are all recommended by readers and
reading groups.
This year’s
list of 15 titles and 2 series have been chosen by young people, but they’re
not just for kids. Who doesn’t enjoy a trip down memory lane by reading a favourite
book from childhood?
Here's a
selection from the list.
The Browns first met
Paddington on a railway station - Paddington station, in fact. He had travelled
all the way from Darkest Peru with only a jar of marmalade, a suitcase and his
hat. The Browns soon found that Paddington was a very unusual bear.
Roald Dahl - Matilda
Matilda's parents have called her some terrible things. The truth is, she's a genius and they're the stupid ones. Find out how she gets the better of them and her spiteful headmistress, as well as discovering that she has a very special power.

This is the journal of
Cassandra Mortmain. First, there is her eccentric father. Then there is her
sister, Rose - and her stepmother, Topaz. Finally, there is Stephen, who is in
love with Cassandra. Cassandra records her feelings on all of them.
Fiction for Young (and Young at Heart) Adults
Holly Bourne - Am I Normal Yet?
Evie, Amber and Lottie: three girls facing down tough issues with the combined powers of friendship, feminism and cheesy snacks. Both hilarious and heart-rending, this is Evie's no-holds-barred story of struggling to live a 'normal' teen life in the grip of OCD.
Patrick Ness - More Than This
A boy called Seth drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments, losing his life as the pounding sea claims him. But then he wakes. How is that possible? And where is this place?
Wonder' is the funny, sweet
and incredibly moving story of Auggie Pullman. Born with a terrible facial
abnormality, this shy, bright ten-year-old has been home-schooled by his
parents for his whole life, in an attempt to protect him from the stares and
cruelty of the outside world.
Rainbow Rowell - Eleanor and Park
Eleanor is the new girl in town, and with her chaotic family life, her mismatched clothes and unruly red hair, she couldn't stick out more if she tried. Park is the boy at the back of the bus. Black T-shirts, headphones, head in a book - he thinks he's made himself invisible. But not to
Eleanor.

David is funny and quirky
and has always felt different from other people - but he also has a huge secret
that only his two best friends know. Ever since he can remember, he has felt
like a girl trapped in the body of a boy.

Rupi Kaur – Milk and Honey
This is a collection of
poetry and prose about survival. The book is divided into four chapters, and
each chapter serves a different purpose, deals with a different pain, heals a
different heartache.
Non Fiction
What does 'feminism' mean
today? That is the question at the heart of this personal, eloquently-argued
essay by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the award-winning author of 'Americanah' and
'Half of a Yellow Sun'.
Diwrnod Iechyd Meddwl y Byd 10 Hyd 2017
Ymgyrch cenedlaethol i hybu llyfrau
dyrchafol, gan gynnwys nofelau, barddoniaeth a llyfrau ffeithiol yw Mood-boosting
Books gan Reading Well.
Eleni dewiswyd y rhestr o 15 o deitlau a 2 gyfres gan
bobl ifanc, ond nid dim ond ar gyfer plant maen nhw. Pwy sydd ddim yn hoffi hel
atgofion trwy ddarllen hoff lyfr o amser
plentyndod?
Dyma ddetholiad o’r rhestr.
Clasuron
Mae’r teulu Brown yn cwrdd â Paddington am
y tro cyntaf mewn gorsaf drenau - gorsaf Paddington fel mae’n digwydd. Roedd
wedi teithio’r holl ffordd o Beriw gyda dim ond pot o farmalêd, cês dillad a’i
het. Cyn hir daeth y teulu i wybod fod Paddington yn arth anarferol iawn.
Roald Dahl – Matilda
Mae rhieni Matilda wedi galw rhai enwau cas iawn arni. Ond
y gwir yw ei bod hi’n ddeallus iawn a nhw yw’r twpsod. Dysgwch sut y bydd hi’n
cael y gorau arnyn nhw a’i phrifathrawes sbeitlyd, yn ogystal â dysgu bod
ganddi bŵer arbennig iawn.
Dodie Smith – I Capture the Castle
Dyma ddyddiadur Cassandra Mortmain. Yn
gyntaf, mae ei thad echreiddig. Yna mae ei chwaer, Rose - a’i llysfam, Topaz.
Yn olaf, mae Stephen, sydd mewn cariad â Cassandra. Mae Cassandra’n cofnodi ei
theimladau am bob un ohonyn nhw.
Ffuglen i Bobl Ifanc (a’r
ifanc eu hysbryd)
Evie, Amber a Lottie: tair merch sy’n
wynebu problemau anodd gyda chyfuniad o gyfeillgarwch, ffeministiaeth a
thameidiau cawslyd. Yn ddoniol ac yn
ddirdynnol, dyma stori di-flewyn ar dafod Evie o ymdrechu i fyw bywyd ‘normal'
gydag anhwylder gorfodaeth obsesiynol.
Mae bachgen o’r enw Seth yn boddi, mewn anobaith ac yn
unig yn ei eiliadau olaf, yn colli ei fywyd wrth i’r môr ei feddiannu. Ond yna, mae’n deffro. Sut mae hyn yn bosibl?
A ble yw’r lle hyn?
Stori ddoniol, felys a hynod afaelgar
Auggie Pullman yw Wonder'. Ganwyd ef ag anffurfiad ofnadwy ar ei wyneb ac mae’r
bachgen deg oed swil a deallus yma wedi cael ei addysg yn ei gartref gan ei
rieni ei holl fywyd, er mwyn ei ddiogelu rhag llygadrythiadau a chreulondeb y
byd tu fas.
Mae Eleanor yn newydd yn y dre a chyda’i bywyd teuluol dryslyd, ei dillad anghydweddol a’i
gwallt coch gwyllt, fedrai hi ddim sefyll allan mwy. Park yw’r bachgen yng nghefn
y bws. Crys T du, clustffonau, pen mewn
llyfr – mae’n meddwl ei fod yn anweledig.
Ond nid i Eleanor.
Mae David yn ddoniol ac yn od ac mae bob amser wedi
teimlo’n wahanol i eraill – ond mae ganddo gyfrinach fawr a dim ond ei ddau
ffrind gorau sy’n gwybod amdani. Ers cyn
cof, mae ei wedi teimlo fel merch mewn corff bachgen.
Cyfresi
Chris Bradford – Cyfres Bodyguard
J K Rowling – Cyfres Harry Potter
Barddoniaeth
Casgliad o farddoniaeth a rhyddiaith am oroesi. Pedair pennod sydd i’r llyfr ac mae amcan
gwahanol i bob pennod, maen nhw’n delio â phoen gwahanol, yn gwella briw
gwahanol.
Ffeithiol
Beth yw ystyr 'ffeministiaeth' heddiw? Dyna’r cwestiwn
wrth galon y traethawd personol, huawdl yma gan Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, awdur
arobryn 'Americanah' a 'Half of a Yellow Sun'.
