National Storytelling Week 30 Jan–6 Feb 2017

Looking for some great books to share with your little ones? We asked library staff to tell us their 3 favourite books to share with under-fives.

In first place, unsurprisingly was Michael Rosen’s ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. Kids love doing the actions.

Joint second were Rod Campbell’s ‘Dear Zoo’ and Martin Waddell’s ‘The Pig in the Pond’.

In third place was ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle

Honourable mentions went to:

Julia Donaldson’s ‘The Gruffalo’ - Julia Donaldson is the most borrowed author for under 5s in Torfaen Libraries and has 6 books in our top 20 for 2016. Copies of her books were loaned 2000 times last year!

Kez Gray – 'Oi Frog'; Debbie Harter - 'Animal Boogie'; Shirley Hughes – 'Dogger'

Nick Sharratt, 'Fancy Dress Jungle' - This made our top 10 most loaned books for this age group in 2016. Great to share with young children who love the interactive pages.

Sally Symes – 'Something Beginning with Blue'; Martin Waddell - 'Owl Babies'

Paul Cherril, 'Loo in the Zoo' -This hilarious mix and match board book was another of our top 10 most borrowed books.

Don’t forget, you can come along to our free rhyme times and under 5s story times.  These are a great way for you and your little ones to socialise and meet other children, parents and carers while sharing stories and rhymes and having fun!

Yn gyntaf, heb fawr o sioc roedd llyfr Michael Rosen, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. Mae plant yn dwlu ar yr ystumiau.

Yn gydradd ail oedd ‘Dear Zoo’ gan Rod Campbell a ‘The Pig in the Pond’ gan Martin Waddell.

Yn drydedd roedd ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ gan Eric Carle
