Amy Liptrot – The Outrun
Memoir - When Amy returns to
Orkney after more than a decade away, she is drawn back to the sheep farm where
she grew up. Approaching the land that was once home, memories of her childhood
merge with the recent events that have set her on this journey. Amy was shaped
by the cycle of the seasons, birth and death on the farm, and her father's
mental illness, which were as much a part of her childhood as the wild,
carefree existence on Orkney. But as she grew up, she longed to leave this
remote life. She moved to London and found herself in a hedonistic cycle.
Unable to control her drinking, alcohol gradually took over. Now 30, she finds
herself washed up back home on Orkney, trying to come to terms with what
happened to her in London.

T A Cotterell –
What Alice Knew
Alice has a perfect life - a
cool job, great kids, and a wonderful husband. Until he goes missing one night;
the phone rings and then goes dead; things don't quite add up. Alice needs to
know what's going on. But when she uncovers the truth she faces a brutal
choice. And how can she be sure it is the truth? Sometimes it's safer not to
know.

Groups:
Group 1 - Sarah Winman – Tin Man
This novel begins with a painting won in a raffle: 15 sunflowers, hung on the wall by a woman who believes that men and boys are capable of beautiful things. And then there are two boys, Ellis and Michael, who are inseparable. The boys become men, and then Annie walks into their lives, and it changes nothing and everything.
Group 2 - Helen Dumore –
Birdcage Walk
It is 1792 and Europe is
seized by political turmoil and violence. Lizzy Fawkes has grown up in radical
circles where each step of the French Revolution is followed with eager
idealism. But she has recently married John Diner Tredevant, a property
developer who is heavily invested in Bristol's housing boom, and he has
everything to lose from social upheaval and the prospect of war. Soon his plans
for a magnificent terrace built above the 200ft drop of the Gorge come under
threat.
Group 3 - Amor Towles – A
Gentleman in Moscow
In 1922 Count Rostov is deemed
an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal. He is sentenced to house
arrest in The Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin.
Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his
life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous
decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel's doors.
Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him a doorway into a much
larger world of emotional discovery.

Amy Liptrot – The Outrun
Cofiant - Pan fydd Amy yn dychwelyd i
Ynysoedd Erch ar ôl mwy na degawd i ffwrdd, caiff ei thynnu'n ôl i'r fferm
ddefaid lle cafodd ei magu. Wrth nesáu at y tir a oedd unwaith yn gartref iddi,
mae atgofion o'i phlentyndod yn cyfuno â'r digwyddiadau diweddar a wnaeth iddi
gychwyn ar y daith hon. Cafodd Amy ei ffurfio gan gylch y tymhorau, genedigaeth
a marwolaeth ar y fferm, a salwch meddwl ei thad, a oedd cymaint yn rhan o'i
phlentyndod â'r fodolaeth wyllt, ysgafnfryd ar yr ynys. Ond wrth iddi dyfu i
fyny, roedd hi'n ysu i adael y bywyd anghysbell hwn. Symudodd i Lundain a
chafodd ei hun mewn cylch hedonyddol. Gan fethu â rheoli'r yfed, yn raddol,
aeth yr alcohol yn drech na hi. Nawr yn 30, mae hi'n canfod ei hun, wedi'i
golchi i fyny yn ôl adref ar yr ynys, gan geisio dod i delerau â'r hyn a
ddigwyddodd iddi yn Llundain.

T A Cotterell – What Alice Knew
Mae gan Alice fywyd perffaith - swydd cŵl, plant gwych, a
gŵr rhagorol. Tan iddo fynd ar goll un noson; mae'r ffôn yn canu ac yna'n marw;
nid yw pethau'n gwneud synnwyr. Mae angen i Alice wybod beth sy'n digwydd. Ond
pan fydd hi'n datguddio'r gwir, mae hi'n wynebu dewis milain. A sut y gall hi
fod yn siŵr mai dyma'r gwir? Weithiau mae'n fwy diogel i beidio â gwybod.
Grwpiau Darllen Llyfrgell Cwmbrân:
Grŵp 1 - Sarah Winman – Tin Man
Mae'r nofel hon yn dechrau gyda phaentiad a enillwyd mewn
raffl: 15 blodau haul, wedi eu hongian ar y wal gan fenyw sy'n credu bod dynion
a bechgyn yn gallu gwneud pethau hardd. Ac yna mae yna ddau fachgen, Ellis a
Michael, sy'n hollol fynwesol. Mae'r bechgyn yn dod yn ddynion, ac yna mae
Annie yn cerdded i mewn i'w bywydau, ac mae'n newid dim a phopeth.
Grŵp 2 - Helen Dumore – Birdcage Walk
Mae'n 1792 ac mae Ewrop yng ngafael trallod gwleidyddol a
thrais. Mae Lizzy Fawkes wedi tyfu i fyny mewn cylchoedd radical lle mae pob
cam o'r Chwyldro Ffrengig yn cael ei ddilyn gan ddelfrydiaeth awchus. Ond mae
hi wedi priodi John Diner Tredevant yn ddiweddar, datblygwr eiddo sydd wedi
buddsoddi'n helaeth ym myd tai ffyniannus Bryste, ac mae ganddo bopeth i'w
golli o gyffro cymdeithasol a'r posibilrwydd o ryfel. Yn fuan, mae ei
gynlluniau am deras godidog wedi'i hadeiladu uwchben y ceunant sy’n gostwng 200
troedfedd, yn dod dan fygythiad.
Grŵp 3 - Amor Towles – A Gentleman in Moscow
Ym 1922 tybir bod Count Rostov yn
aristocrat diedifar gan dribiwnlys Bolsieficaidd. Cafodd ei ddedfrydu a bu’n
destun arestiad tŷ yn y Metropol, gwesty mawr ar draws y stryd o'r Kremlin. Nid
yw Rostov, dyn anorchfygol o ran dysg a hiwmor, erioed wedi gweithio diwrnod yn
ei fywyd, a bellach mae'n rhaid iddo fyw mewn ystafell atig tra bod rhai o'r
degawdau mwyaf cyffrous yn hanes Rwsia yn datblygu y tu allan i ddrysau'r
gwesty. Yn annisgwyl, mae ei ddiffyg amgylchiadau yn rhoi drws iddo i mewn i
fyd llawer mwy o ddarganfyddiad emosiynol.
