A new TV Book Club is about to hit our screens. It will
form a segment of the “Zoe Ball on Sunday” show and launch 17th June
at 8.30am on ITV.
Over 10 weeks 10 books will be read and discussed by Zoe
and an assortment of celebrities. The reading list will include debut novels,
such as Ruth Jones’ “Never Greener”; memoirs; love stories; historical crime
and chilling ghost stories.
If you want to get ahead of the game and read the books
before the shows air, here are the first 3 titles.
Book 1 - 17 June
Adam Kay – This is Going to Hurt: secret diaries of a
junior doctor
Adam Kay was a junior doctor from 2004 until 2010, before a devastating
experience on a ward caused him to reconsider his future. He kept a diary throughout
his training, and 'This is Going to Hurt' intersperses tales from the front
line of the NHS with reflections on the current crisis. The result is a
first-hand account of life as a junior doctor in all its joy, pain, sacrifice
and maddening bureaucracy, and a love letter to those who might at any moment
be holding our lives in their hands.
Book 2 – 24 June
Rowan Colman – The Summer of Impossible Things
If you could change the past, would you? 30 years ago,
something terrible happened to Luna's mother. Something she's only prepared to
reveal after her death. Now Luna and her sister have a chance to go back to
their mother's birthplace and settle her affairs. But in Brooklyn they find
more questions than answers, until something impossible, magical, happens to
Luna, and she meets her mother as a young woman back in the summer of 1977. At
first Luna thinks she's going crazy, but if she can truly travel back in time,
she can change things. But in doing anything, everything to save her mother's
life, will she have to sacrifice her own?
Book 3 – 1 July
Ruth Jones – Never Greener
Ruth Jones makes her debut with a witty and wise story of
life's second chances and the dangers of taking them. With her trademark
warmth, humanity and heart, she shows us the dangers of looking for something
better, and forgetting that the best might not be in our past or yet to come -
but right where we are now.
All the books are available to borrow or reserve from Torfaen
Libraries.

Llyfr 1 - 17 Mehefin
Adam Kay – This is Going to Hurt: secret diaries of a junior
doctor
Roedd Adam Kay yn feddyg iau rhwng 2004 a 2010, cyn i brofiad dinistriol
ar ward achosi iddo ail-ystyried ei ddyfodol. Fe wnaeth gadw dyddiadur drwy
gydol ei hyfforddiant, ac mae ‘This is Going to Hurt’ yn rhannu straeon o reng
flaen y GIG gan fyfyrio ar yr argyfwng cyfredol. Y canlyniad yw cofnod
uniongyrchol o fywyd fel meddyg iau yn ei holl lawenydd, poen, aberth a
biwrocratiaeth wallgof, a llythyr caru i’r rhai hynny a allai fod ar unrhyw
adeg yn dal ein bywydau yn eu dwylo.
Llyfr 2 – 24 Mehefin
Rowan Colman – The Summer of Impossible Things
Pe byddech chi’n gallu newid y gorffennol, fyddech chi? 30
mlynedd yn ôl, digwyddodd rhywbeth ofnadwy i fam Luna. Rhywbeth na wnaiff hi
ddatgelu nes ar ôl iddi farw. Nawr mae Luna a’i chwaer yn cael cyfle i fynd yn
ôl i fan geni eu mam a setlo ei materion. Ond yn Brooklyn maen nhw’n dod o hyd
i fwy o gwestiynau nag atebion, nes i rywbeth amhosibl, hudol, ddigwydd i Luna,
ac mae’n cyfarfod ei mam yn ferch ifanc yn ôl yn haf 1977. I ddechrau, mae
Luna’n credu ei bod hi’n mynd o’i chof, ond os yw hi’n gallu teithio’n ôl mewn
amser, gallai newid pethau. Ond i wneud rhywbeth, popeth i achub bywyd ei mam,
a fydd rhaid iddi aberthu ei bywyd ei hun?
Llyfr 3 – 1 Gorffennaf
Ruth Jones – Never Greener
Dyma nofel gyntaf Ruth Jones, nofel gyda stori ddoeth a
ffraeth am ail gyfleoedd bywyd a’r peryglon o’u cymryd nhw. Gyda’i
chynhesrwydd, dynoliaeth a chalon nodweddiadol, mae’n dangos y peryglon o
chwilio am rywbeth gwell, ac anghofio efallai nad yn y gorffennol na’r dyfodol
y mae’r gorau – ond yn union yn y man rydyn ni nawr.
Mae’r llyfrau hyn i gyd ar gael i’w benthyg neu i’w cadw o
Lyfrgelloedd Torfaen.
