Books hitting our TV screens

Tom Burke - Strike

If you enjoyed the new BBC 1 series Strike which started at 9pm on Sunday, you may be interested to hear that it’s based on one of J K Rowling’s crime novels, ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’ written under her pseudonym, Robert Galbraith. This is the first novel in the Strike series and will be aired in 3 parts. There are also plans to follow this with the second book in the series, ‘Silkworm'.

With the gorgeous Tom Burke of ‘The Musketeers’ and ‘War and Peace’ playing the title role it’s got to be one to watch.

The Cuckoo’s Calling - A war veteran wounded both physically and psychologically, Cormoran Strike's life is in disarray but the case he is working on gives him a lifeline, despite coming at a personal cost.

Silkworm - When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, she just thinks he has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realises.

Coming to the small screen next year is Amazon and BBC Studios’ adaption of ‘Good Omens’ jointly penned by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The lead roles will be played by none other than David Tennant and Michael Sheen and Gaiman will be writing the script. With such stellar names involved it promises great things. Why not read the book and find out what’s in store?

According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch – the world’s only totally reliable guide to the future, written in 1655, before she exploded – the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just after tea…

Llyfrau sy’n cyrraedd y teledu

Tom Burke - Strike
Os gwnaethoch fwynhau Strike, y gyfres newydd ar BBC 1 a ddechreuodd am 9 o’r gloch nos Sul, efallai y bydd gennych ddiddordeb i glywed ei fod wedi'i seilio ar un o nofelau trosedd J K Rowling, 'The Cuckoo's Calling' dan ei ffugenw, Robert Galbraith. Dyma'r nofel gyntaf yng nghyfres Strike a bydd yn cael ei ddarlledu mewn 3 ran,  i'w ddilyn yn agos gan  'Silkworm'.

Gyda'r hyfryd Tom Burke o 'The Musketeers' a 'War and Peace' yn chwarae'r brif ran, mae hwn yn un i'w wylio.

The Cuckoo’s Calling - Yn gyn-filwr y rhyfel sydd wedi cael ei niweidio'n gorfforol ac yn seicolegol, mae bywyd  Cormoran Strike mewn penbleth ond mae'r achos y mae'n gweithio arno yn rhoi llinell bywyd iddo, er gwaethaf y gost bersonol.
Silkworm - Pan fydd y nofelydd Owen Quine yn mynd ar goll, mae ei wraig yn galw ar Cormoran Strike, ditectif preifat. Ar y dechrau, mae hi'n meddwl ei fod wedi mynd ymaith ar ei ben ei hun am ychydig ddyddiau - ac mae am i Strike ddod o hyd iddo a dod ag ef adref. Ond wrth i Strike ymchwilio, mae'n amlwg bod mwy i ddiflaniad Quine na mae ei wraig yn sylweddoli.

Yn dod i'r sgrin fach y flwyddyn nesaf mae addasiad Amazon a BBC Studios o 'Good Omens' a ysgrifennwyd ar y cyd gan Terry Pratchett a Neil Gaiman. Mi fydd y prif rolau yn cael eu chwarae gan neb llai na David Tennant a Michael Sheen a Gaiman fydd yn ysgrifennu'r sgript. Gydag enwau o'r fath yn gysylltiedig â'r darn, mae'n addo pethau gwych. Beth am ddarllen y llyfr a darganfod beth sydd o'ch blaen?

Yn ôl Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch - unig ganllaw dibynadwy'r byd o ran y dyfodol, a ysgrifennwyd ym 1655, cyn iddi ffrwydro - daw’r byd i ben ar ddydd Sadwrn. Dydd Sadwrn nesaf a dweud y gwir. Ychydig ar ôl te…..
